The January 2012 report from StatCounter found that 8.5 percent of Internet access came from cellphones during the month. That was almost twice as high as 2011’s 4.3 percent, which was more than twice as high as 2010’s 1.6 percent, which was more than twice as high as 2009’s 0.7 percent.
Breaking the statistics down by phone manufacturer, Nokia continued to dominate worldwide mobile Web usage, followed by Apple, Samsung and RIM. However, in North America, Apple took first place with 59.11 percent of mobile Web use.
Interestingly, the report only considered Web access from mobile phones; if tablets were also included, mobile Web access would undoubtedly account for a higher percentage of all Web use.
