Appcelerator, the vendor behind the Titanium application development platform, has announced that it will purchase Cocoafish, which offers cross-platform backend services for mobile apps. Beginning next quarter, Appcelerator will re-brand Cocoafish’s offerings as “Appcelerator Cloud Services (ACS).” In addition, Appcelerator plans to build on Cocoafish’s cloud computing expertise to launch a private cloud service for developers with greater security needs in the third quarter.
Appcelerator CEO Jeff Haynie said his company decided to purchase Cocafish because it had the “most complete solution.” He added, “We took a look at all these companies, and what we liked [about Cocoafish] was that they have 25 well-designed, well-tested services supported. They’re sets of interfaces that work together.”
