Forrester: Software Spending Will Drive Up U.S. IT Spending by 7.1%

In a new forecast, market research firm Forrester predicts boom times for the enterprise software development market. The company says that U.S. IT spending will climb 7.1 percent this year, led by an 11.4 percent increase in software spending. The largest gains will come in software management tools, such as financial management, human resources management, ePurchasing, CRM and business intelligence software, and products offered on a software as a service basis will be particularly popular.

Enterprises are also investing more heavily into emerging software product categories, like case management tools, automated spend analysis, services procurement, supplier risk, performance management, services procurement, and talent and recruitment management software, says the company. “The problems that technology is being expected to solve are expanding,” noted Forrester’s Andrew Bartels. “The technology that’s available has a better fit against the unsolved business problems,”
