In an effort to attract more small developers to its platform as a service (PaaS), Salesforce.com’s Heroku is rolling out some lower-priced cloud database options. Both are based on Postgres. The Crane tier of database service will offer 400MB RAM cache and 1TB of storage for $50 per month; the Kappa level offers 800MB cache and 1TB of storage for $100 per month. Previously, Heroku’s cheapest database option cost $200 per month. “Going from zero to $200 per month is a serious jump for certain types of customers,” said Heroku’s Matt Soldo.
Heroku’s highest-priced database offers 68GB of cache and 1TB of storage for $6,400 per month.
