ActiveState PaaS Wins HP Deal

Cloud development platform vendor ActiveState recently scored a big win. Its Stackato platform as a service (PaaS) will be the official PaaS for HP’s cloud computing business.

Stackato is based on the open source Cloud Foundry platform, with additional security features for enterprises. Stackato works with multiple programming languages and multiple cloud computing services. And it can run in public, private or hybrid clouds.

TechCrunch’s Alex Williams noted that this new relationship with HP may complicate ActiveState’s relationship with Cloud Foundry. He wrote, “ActiveState will increasingly compete with Cloud Foundry while using its technology. How that competition plays out will depend a lot on ActiveState’s success with HP and the direction Cloud Foundry takes as part of the Pivotal Labs group.”
