Cisco: Cloud Computing Will Generate 8.6 ZB of Traffic by 2016

In the latest version of its Cloud Index report, Cisco predicts that global cloud traffic will reach 8.6 zettabytes (ZB) by 2019. By comparison, last year, cloud traffic totaled 2.1 ZB. Other noteworthy stats from the report include the following:

  • Public cloud computing workloads are increasing 44 percent every year; private cloud workloads are growing 16 percent per year.
  • By 2019, public clouds will account for 56 percent of all cloud workloads.
  • Internet of Things (IoT) data will reach 507.5 ZB by 2019.
  • By 2019, 59 percent of cloud workloads will be SaaS, 45 percent will be IaaS, and 11 percent will be PaaS.
