Docker has released an update of its open source containerization software. The most significant new features in Docker 1.12 are the first full desktop versions for Mac and Windows; previously Mac and Windows versions were beta releases. The Mac version uses the Apple Hypervisor Framework, and the Windows version relies on Microsoft Hyper-V.
The update also includes an enhanced swarm mode, which speeds performance.
Native Windows support for Docker will likely be part of the next Windows Server release.
