For the past several months, Intel has been working on a project called the Cloud Integrated Advanced Orchestrator, or Ciao, which is available on the company’s GitHub site. Intel Linux engineer Arjan van de Ven said the project came about after Intel developers asked themselves, “If we did OpenStack from scratch, what would it look like?”
The resulting tool is equally adept at handling virtual machines, containers and bare metal. It also has more advanced security baked in. It includes a controller, a scheduler and a launcher, as well as networking components, a command line interface and a Web interface.
