Microsoft Reports Strong Cloud Computing, Enterprise Software Sales

Microsoft has turned in a very strong financial report for its second fiscal quarter of 2014, and a large portion of the credit goes to its Commercial segment, which sells software and cloud computing services to enterprises. In particular, its cloud computing revenue “more than doubled,” said the company. Kevin Turner, Microsoft’s chief operating officer, added, “We significantly outpaced enterprise IT spend as we continue to take share from our competitors by delivering the devices and services our customers need as they transition to the cloud.”

Overall, Commercial sales climbed 10 percent year-over-year to reach $12.67 billion. Top performers from the company’s enterprise software lineup included SQL Server, System Center and Windows Pro.
