Number of Female Developers Hits All-Time High

A new Evans Data Survey finds that 19.3 percent of software developers are women. That’s more than double the number of female programmers from fifteen years ago. Not surprisingly, many of these female developers are young; in fact, 40 percent are under the age of 30.

The survey also revealed some interesting demographic data about developers in general. The median age for developers is 36, and most (87 percent) have a college degree. The average developer is also a family man—two-thirds have between one and three children, and only 3 percent are divorced.
