Red Hat Releases OpenShift Enterprise

Red Hat is officially opening its cloud development platform to enterprises. The company announced the launch of OpenShift Enterprise, a supported version of the company’s open source platform as a service (PaaS). Previously, the PaaS was available without support through the OpenShift Origin open source project. Interested customers will be able to purchase OpenShift Enterprise on a subscription basis.

Not surprisingly, OpenShift Enterprise runs on top of Red Hat Enterprise Linux. Red Hat’s Ashesh Badani claims that OpenShift Enterprise “legitimately transforms every Linux administrator into a cloud administrator.”
