Red Hat has announced that its Open Shift platform as a service (PaaS) can now run applications written on Microsoft’s .NET platform. However, currently the .NET support is limited and available only through a community download from software vendor Uhuru. “We are working on merging that into OpenShift Origin so it can be accessed directly there as well,” said Red Hat’s Chris Morgan. “We have not yet announced commercial plans for a supported .NET add-on capability in OpenShift Online and OpenShift Enterprise products.”
Red Hat OpenShift comes in three different version: OpenShift Origin is the open source community project, OpenShift Online is the public cloud computing service with free and paid levels of service, and OpenShift Enterprise is on-premise, private version of the PaaS.
