Activision introduces 120-player mode in Warzone Mobile

Warzone Mobile

Activision has announced the addition of a 120-player Verdansk mode to the mobile edition of Call of Duty Warzone. Unlike the PC and console versions, this new feature aims to leverage the expanding mobile gaming market for increased revenue from in-game purchases and ad revenues.

The groundbreaking mobile version was launched in 2019 by TiMi Studio Group, a subsidiary of Tencent, with more than 650 million installs to date. However, due to a share in profits with Tencent, Activision developed Call of Duty Warzone Mobile independently. As a result, all battle pass purchases now contribute directly to Activision’s revenue.

With heavy investment in Call of Duty Warzone Mobile, Activision plans a global release on March 21 on the App Store and Google Play. Unique to the mobile version, the inclusion of the 120-player Verdansk map fulfills a long-standing request from PC and console players.

Chris Plummer, Activision Publishing’s Senior Vice President, and Co-Head of Mobile, applauded the transition. He indicated a positive community reaction to the launch of Warzone on the console and PC, post the mobile release, reinforcing the decision.

Activision’s development team has replicated the successful gaming experience on mobile using proprietary Call of Duty technology. This move ensures seamless cross-progression and content acquisition, thereby improving player performances across platforms.

According to Plummer, the transition to mobile Battle Royale gameplay was well-received. He suggested that mobile Battle Royale players often compete against robots, which underscores the need for a true mobile remodeling to better the gaming experience. The introduction of the 120-player Verdansk map and other significant enhancements positions Call of Duty Warzone Mobile at the leading edge of mobile gaming. With high confidence, Activision believes this update will continue propelling the franchise forward.
