Samsung introduces new Galaxy security features

Galaxy security

Samsung has introduced two new security features for Galaxy devices: Private Sharing and Enhanced Data Protection. Private Sharing is a new mode within Quick Share that allows users to share up to 20 files with a maximum limit of 200MB. Users can set who can view the files and set expiration timers, after which shared files will no longer be visible.

Files shared via this feature are viewable in read-only mode; recipients cannot share them further or take screenshots. Samsung ensures data protection through blockchain-based encryption technology, although this feature is exclusive to Samsung devices and limited to specific file formats such as audio, documents, images, and videos. Enhanced Data Protection offers end-to-end encryption for all backups and synced data stored in Samsung Cloud.

This means the data can only be decrypted on the user’s Samsung device, ensuring that the data remains secure even if the server is compromised. Users can activate this feature in the security settings of their Galaxy devices.

Introducing new Galaxy privacy tools

After activation, users receive a recovery code to regain access to their Samsung account if needed. Private Sharing is supported between Galaxy devices with Android OS 10 (Q OS) or later & One UI 2.1 or later. A maximum of 20 files and 200MB can be transferred simultaneously.

Shareable file types include images (.jpg, .jpeg, .png, .gif, .bmp, .webp, .heic, .dng), videos (.webm, .mp4, .3gp, .3g2, .mkv), audio (.mp3, .wav, .ogg, .m4a) and documents (.txt, .pdf). Enhanced Data Protection availability and support may vary by device model and OS. These new security features highlight Samsung’s ongoing commitment to improving privacy and data security for its users.

With Private Sharing, users have greater control over who can access their shared files and for how long. Enhanced Data Protection adds an extra layer of security to data stored in the cloud, ensuring that it can only be accessed by the user’s device. As technology becomes increasingly embedded in our lives, these features provide users with peace of mind and the ability to share sensitive information safely.
