With summer approaching and the promise of more free time for many students imminent, there is no better time to upgrade your gaming setup. Gaming has become even more of a global phenomenon than it previously was since the pandemic. And it is not just kids who are gaming anymore. Gaming has become a popular hobby for people of all ages.
Recent reports suggest that there are over 3 billion gamers worldwide in 2023. And the number is estimated to continue climbing. While there are a number of ways you can game like PC, console, and even VR gaming, one constant is the need for quality audio. In this article, we’ll take a look at the Corsair HS70 Wireless Headset and provide our review.
Overall – 4.4/10
Pricing – 4 / 5
Currently priced at $99.99, the Corsair HS70 Wireless gaming headset is a very fairly priced item. While there are several cheaper options for wireless headsets, they don’t have the same quality of material and durability as the Corsair HS70. In general, any new wireless headset will cost at least $40 with some of the more expensive options going up over $300. All in all, we think that $99.99 is a very fair and reasonable price for the product here.
Design – 3.5 / 5
Overall, we really enjoy the aesthetic design of the headsets. The design is a sleek and smooth one with no fancy bells or whistles. Many gaming headsets now boast bright flashing lights or colorful designs. The HS70 tends to veer in the opposite direction. It has a relatively simplistic design offered in a black or cream color. The headset doesn’t veer into the heavy gaming aesthetic that many others do, making it a perfect multi-faceted headset that can be used for both work and play. We gave a 3.5 rating because while the design isn’t anything out of this world, it is visually pleasing and has a sleek and professional aesthetic.
Material – 5 / 5
One of the biggest selling points of the Corsair HS70 headset is its high quality and durability. As with many of their other products, Corsair provides a durable and well-built product. Each earphone is attached by sturdy metal hinges that can withstand a majority of reasonable dings or knocks. Unlike some of the cheaper quality headsets, users shouldn’t have to fear the HS70 breaking down randomly. The headband-style padding is thick and comfortable, making it good for prolonged wear. The headset also comes with a detachable boom mic that can be attached or removed as needed.
Breathability – 2.5 / 5
The breathability is one of its more average features. During prolonged usage, the wearer will likely find their ears running a bit warm, which is standard for most headsets. The headset is definitely not suited for working out or exercising. For regular gaming sessions, the user shouldn’t run into any sort of issues.
Controls – 3 / 5
Casual gamers will be happy to know that the headset has very easy-to-navigate controls. The volume wheel is easy to find and easier to use. The headset features a standard mute and unmute button but does not feature any sort of channel mixing. Perfect for newer games, it has an extremely user-friendly interface. Whether you are an avid or casual gamer, you shouldn’t run into any problems navigating this headset’s controls. The only knock against the controls is the lack of channel mixing options and the lack of noise cancellation settings.
Comfort – 4.5 / 5
We touched on this a bit earlier, but this is an extremely comfortable headset. The thick padding across the head is soft and breathable and allows the user to comfortably wear the headset for hours at a time. The ear pads are soft and comfortable for prolonged usage. As noted earlier the only issue with comfort would be an overheating around the ears, but that problem would only arise with extreme long-term use in a single sitting. Overall this is one of the most comfortable headsets available on the market.
Battery – 4 / 5
As with any wireless headset, the Corsair HS70 will need to be charged for wireless usage. The good news is that a full charge can last for up to 16 consecutive hours of usage. Plug the headset in overnight and you should be good to go for quite a while. Outside of a few upper-end headsets, you won’t find many options for better battery life.
Sound Quality – 4.5 / 5
Without getting into technical terminology, the Corsair HS70 Wireless headset has some of the best sound quality for its value. We ran into almost no issues with audio or microphones in our testing. There are some extremely high-end headsets that may provide slightly better audio quality. But at its price point, it will be tough to beat the quality of the HS70 Wireless.
