Getting Disconnected When Online

Question:
I often get disconnected for no apparent reason after being online for only ten minutes or so. Is this a normal occurrence?

Answer:
The reasons for being disconnected can vary from receiving call-waiting beeps while online to problems with your modem or inferior connections. Unfortunately, if you are using a 56K modem to connect to the Internet, what you are experiencing is not all that uncommon. Until some of the more stable, higher speed connections become available you can try dialing *70 before you dial-in. This will disable call waiting in many areas in the U.S.
