IonQ, a leader in the quantum computing industry, has unveiled its first quantum computer in Europe. The new system, Forte Enterprise, is hosted at the uptownBasel campus in Arlesheim, Switzerland, in collaboration with QuantumBasel. This milestone marks the first datacenter-ready quantum computer delivered by IonQ outside the United States, and the first quantum system for commercial use in Switzerland.
Forte Enterprise is now operational, offering compute jobs at a record algorithmic qubit count of #AQ36, surpassing the previously promised #AQ35. This advancement means that Forte Enterprise can consider over 68 billion different possibilities simultaneously, doubling the computational space per additional AQ unit. “The successful commissioning of Forte Enterprise in Europe – on schedule and at an even higher performance level than announced previously – demonstrates IonQ’s commitment to driving global quantum adoption through technological leadership and operational excellence,” said Peter Chapman, CEO and President of IonQ.
Damir Bogdan, CEO of QuantumBasel, said, “Offering the state-of-the-art Forte Enterprise quantum computing platform to our ecosystem will accelerate the development of quantum applications across a range of fields. By collaborating with IonQ, we’re positioning the uptownBasel campus as a leader in quantum innovation, fostering breakthroughs that address real-world challenges.”
IonQ’s next-generation commercial quantum systems like Forte Enterprise are optimized for data center environments, featuring a rack-mounted form factor, low energy profile, and minimal environmental isolation requirements. This design approach integrates well with existing data center infrastructures, enhancing accessibility and practical usability.
Today’s commissioning of the IonQ Forte Enterprise system is the culmination of extensive engineering innovation and operational excellence.
IonQ launches european quantum system
“This milestone reflects the hard work and ingenuity of teams across IonQ and QuantumBasel,” said Dr.
Dave Mehuys, VP of Production Engineering. IonQ’s achievement of #AQ36 emphasizes the company’s dedication to advancing quantum performance. Forte Enterprise broadens the potential for groundbreaking research in fields such as quantum chemistry and machine learning.
“IonQ’s ability to deliver Forte Enterprise with #AQ36 reflects our growing capabilities to execute on our mission to drive significant quantum advancements globally,” said Dr. Dean Kassmann, Senior Vice President of Engineering and Technology at IonQ. IonQ’s first European Innovation Center enables the company to service its European customers from its QuantumBasel location and drive the R&D of next-generation quantum applications in Europe.
As part of its partnership with IonQ, QuantumBasel will offer its wide ecosystem, including enterprises, research institutes, startups, and universities, direct access to the Forte Enterprise system. With data centers now in Washington, D.C., Seattle, and Basel, Switzerland, IonQ has established a robust global presence, reinforcing its leadership in quantum technology. This global footprint facilitates greater access and accelerated advancements in quantum computing technologies.
