Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, wants to shape tech policy in the new Trump administration. This comes after a time when Zuckerberg and Trump had public fights. Zuckerberg banned Trump from Instagram and Facebook after the January 6 Capitol riots.

He said Trump caused political violence. But now, things are getting better between them. Zuckerberg visited Trump at Mar-a-Lago in Florida last week.

They talked about technology, and Zuckerberg showed off Meta’s camera sunglasses. Stephen Miller, who works for Trump, said on Fox News that Zuckerberg wants to help with changes in technology in America. Nick Clegg, who is in charge of global affairs at Meta, said the same thing.

He said Zuckerberg wants to be a part of the choices in tech policy, especially in keeping America as a leader in technology and artificial intelligence. Clegg said Meta’s rules about what people could post during COVID-19 might have been too strict.

Zuckerberg and Trump’s renewed partnership

He said the company “overdid it a bit” in taking down posts. This sometimes stopped free speech.

Meta’s policies tried to keep people safe. But they made a lot of mistakes. They took down posts that were okay and punished people unfairly.

Meta is being nicer to Trump now. They let him back on Facebook and Instagram before the 2024 election. Zuckerberg even called Trump a “badass” for how tough he was after getting shot in July.

Zuckerberg was one of the tech leaders who told Trump “congrats” after winning the November election. He said he was excited to work together. “We have great opportunities ahead of us as a country,” Zuckerberg posted on Threads on November 6.
