Rackspace has put together a new infographic that traces the history of programming languages. It begins in 1957 with the development of Fortran and ends in 2005 with the introduction of Ruby on Rails. Along the way, it covers Cobol, Basic, C, Pascal, C++, Perl, Python, Ruby, PHP, Java and JavaScript, with code samples from each.
The graphic also includes that latest stats from TIOBE on the popularity of programming languages. The current top five are Java, C, C++, C# and PHP.
