Apple Has Paid $7 Billion to Devs

Apple’s latest earnings announcement included a few nuggets of interest to the mobile development industry. First, the company announced that its App Store has brought in a grand total of $10 billion since its inception. Since Apple keeps 30 percent of App Store proceeds and pays developers the rest, that means the company has paid approximately $7 billion to third-party developers.

Other noteworthy tidbits included the following:

  • In December, the App Store had a record-setting 2 billion app downloads.
  • The App Store now has 500 million account holders in 155 countries.
  • The App Store now has a library of 800,000 apps.
