Microsoft Debuts Windows 10

On Tuesday, Microsoft unveiled a preview of the latest version of its Windows operating system. The update, which had been codenamed “Threshold,” will be released as “Windows 10.” The name surprised many who expected it to be called “Windows 9,” but Microsoft decided to skip from 8 to 10 to signify that this was a major release.

Windows 10 reportedly does a better job of combining touch-friendly features with easy keyboard and mouse use. It also has many features targeted at enterprise users. Microsoft’s Terry Myerson noted, “This will be our most comprehensive operating system and the best release Microsoft has ever done for our business customers, and we look forward to working together with our broader Windows community to bring Windows 10 to life in the months ahead.”

Myerson also commented on Windows 10’s benefits for developers, saying, “Whether you’re building a game or a line-of-business application, there will be one way to write a universal app that targets the entire family. There will be one store, one way for applications to be discovered, purchased and updated across all of these devices.”
