Google’s Pixel Watch 3 introduced a convenient feature that allows users to view live camera feeds from Nest cameras directly on their smartwatch. This feature is expected to roll out to additional Wear OS devices soon, expanding its accessibility beyond just the Pixel Watch 3. Currently, this live Nest Cam streaming functionality lets users monitor Nest cameras or doorbells from 2021 and newer, as long as they are connected to the Google Home app and running Wear OS 1.4 or higher.
Users can get real-time notifications, view live feeds, and take quick actions such as starting a two-way chat or sending preset responses directly from their watch. For now, this feature is exclusive to the Pixel Watch 3, but Google has announced plans to roll it out to older Pixel Watch models and other Wear OS devices. Although a specific rollout date has not been given, the expanded availability is expected to help more users adopt and use Nest Cam products.
Nest Cam streaming on Wear OS
To use this feature, tap the Camera tile on your watch, select the desired camera, and the live stream will start. Users can swipe left or right to adjust the view and double-tap to zoom in.
Additional options, like “Quick Replies” or two-way talk, can be accessed through a menu at the bottom of the screen. When engaging in a two-way conversation, the camera will chime to alert the person on the other side. Google’s move to make live Nest Cam streaming available on other Wear OS devices is seen as a strategic decision to enhance the flexibility and appeal of its ecosystem.
This integration allows users to choose devices that best suit their needs without being confined to a single platform. This feature, requiring Wear OS 1.4 or higher, emphasizes Google’s commitment to providing a seamless experience across its range of products, ensuring that a greater number of users can benefit from smart home integrations.
