A Handy Way to Use Notepad for Logging

Notepad has a little-known feature that lets you use it to keep a personal timestamped log of records easily. To try it, create a new text document by right clicking in a Windows Explorer folder, and clicking “New” and then “Text Document.” Type the following as the first line in the document:

.LOG

Save the document. Now, every time you open the document, Notepad will automatically insert a time and date stamp on a new line at the end of the document, and place the cursor right below it where you can add your relevant log entry.

Try it. Double-click the text file you just created. It will open, and you’ll see the time and date on a new line.
