Containers Make Applications More Secure, Reports Say

Analysts and security consultants say enterprise application development teams may be better off running their applications in containers.

A pair of new reports claim that deploying applications within containers can help enterprises improve security. The first report, from analyst firm Gartner, says, containers are better than bare-metal because "applications and users are isolated on a per-container basis so that they cannot compromise other containers or the host OS."

The second report, from security firm NCC Group, adds, "from a security perspective, [containers] create a method to reduce attack surfaces and isolate applications to only the required components, interfaces, libraries and network connections."

However, experts at Docker note that containers must be properly set up in order to be secure.
