GitHub Reports Outages

Over the weekend, many enterprises and open source projects were temporarily unable to access their code when code-sharing site GitHub experienced downtime. Both Saturday and Sunday, the service reported “major service outages” related to DDoS attacks. According to GitHub’s Brial Doll, “We don’t have additional information we can share about the origin of these incidents, but no data has been compromised during these or any previous DDoS incident.”

GitHub has experienced several high profile DDoS attacks in the past, including one in October 2012 and one in February 2012 which lasted more than a week.

More than 3 million developers use GitHub.
