China, Other Governments Reviewing IBM Source Code

China, Other Governments Reviewing IBM Source Code

In a speech last week, an IBM executive revealed that his company has been allowing Chinese officials to review some of its source code. In a related statement, IBM said that it had permitted several governments to review code in a tightly controlled environment in order to reassure them that the code was secure. It added, ?Strict procedures are in place within these technology demonstration centers to ensure that no software source code is released, copied or altered in any way.?

In related news, security vendor CrowdStrike is reporting that Chinese hackers are continuing to attack the networks of U.S. companies, despite a recent pledge from China’s president that the country would not conduct cyber-economic espionage in order to benefit its state-owned industries.

Last week, IBM also announced that its Bluemix cloud development platform was expanding to China.
