Microsoft has officially released Windows 10 IoT Core, its operating system for the Internet of Things. Unlike most versions of Windows, which run on Intel processors, Windows 10 IoT core was designed for ARM processors. It can run on Raspberry Pi 2 and Arduino boards, which are frequently used by hobbyists, students and inventors who are tinkering with IoT devices.
The release is part of Microsoft’s overarching plan to have a unified Windows code base that can run on any kind of device. While they haven’t yet attained their goal of allowing developers to write applications once and run them anywhere, Windows 10 IoT Core is another step in that direction.
