HP has announced that it is purchasing the Stackato cloud development platform from ActiveState. Stackato is based on the open source Cloud Foundry project, and HP had already been using Stackato as the foundation of its Helion Development Platform.

Bill Hilf, HP's senior vice president of cloud and service management, blogged that the acquisition "reinforces HP's focus on driving Cloud Foundry as the open standard cloud native application platform."

The purchase price for Stackato was not disclosed.
