The rise of cloud development platforms has seen a growing number of vendors touting "codeless" enterprise application development. Many of these tools promise to allow business employees to create new apps quickly without the help of IT. "Businesses do not want to be dependent on IT to get everything done," says Pankaj Malviya of Software AG.
So should developers be worried about their jobs?
Most observers say no. "These environments allow delivery of simple applications without writing code. But in the real world, there's usually some [code] somewhere in the project," explains Forrester analyst John Rymer.
