Jenkins Is Coming to Azure

The open source continuous integration/delivery (CI/CD) server Jenkins has announced that it will be moving the back-end infrastructure for the project to Microsoft’s Azure cloud computing service. “To support this rapid growth, the Azure resources will provide reliable, secure infrastructure and capabilities spanning Linux Virtual Machines, storage, scaling and load balancing, and software delivery on the Azure platform,” said a press release related to the announcement. “With Azure, Jenkins contributors will also have greater capacity and flexibility to build, test and deploy the hundreds of plug-ins that integrate Jenkins into nearly any continuous delivery process.”

In the past, Jenkins was using four different infrastructure providers, and this move will allow them to consolidate.

Jenkins is very popular with organizations that use Agile software development methodologies, and its move to Azure is very significant for Microsoft, which has recently begun embracing open source software.
