Microsoft has announced that it will stop supporting the most popular version of its Web browser. With 21.56 percent of the browser market, Internet Explorer (IE) 8.0 has more users than any other single Web browser. In fact, many enterprises require their users to run IE 8.0 for legacy Web apps. But Microsoft says it will stop supporting IE 8.0 on January 12, 2016.
The company wants users to upgrade to IE 11.0, which currently owns 16.78 percent of the market. To satisfy the needs of enterprises, IE 11.0 includes enterprise mode, which “offers enhanced backward compatibility and enables you to run many legacy web apps during your transition to modern web standards.” Microsoft plans to support enterprise mode for Windows 7 through January 14, 2020.
