Google has announced that it is opening a new machine learning research lab in Zurich, Switzerland. Already a leader in artificial intelligence research, Google says this new group will focus on practical applications of the technology, particularly in the areas of language, speech, translation, visual processing and “machine perception.” Google products like Google Translate, Photo Search and Smart Reply for Inbox already rely heavily on machine learning technology.
“Europe is home to some of the world’s premier technical universities, making it an ideal place to build a top-notch research team,” said Emmanuel Mogenet, head of Google Research, Europe.
