IDC: Consumer Tablet Sales Drop; Enterprise Tablet Sales Rise

Windows tablets are gaining market share.

Building the Right Environment to Support AI, Machine Learning and Deep Learning

A new report from the market analysts at IDC finds that consumers are buying fewer tablets, but enterprises are buying more. In the first quarter of 2015, shipments of tablets to Western Europe dropped 10.5 percent due to "sluggish consumer demand." However, enterprise sales of tablets and two-in-one devices were up 50 percent year over year.

"Tablet usage for professional purposes is a reality," said Marta Fiorentini, senior research analyst at IDC. "Adoption is far from being mainstream but we now see companies of all sizes choosing tablets and two-in-ones to support their normal business activities."

Android tablets dominate the market with a 64.6 percent share, followed by iPads with a 27 percent share. Windows tablets have only 8.4 percent of the market but demonstrated double-digit growth for the third quarter in a row.
