A new report from Packt Publishing Ltd. details the data science and business intelligence skills that command the highest salaries. It noted, "Python is definitely top dog when it comes to data. Its versatility and wealth of easy-to-use third-party libraries for everything from machine learning to Web scraping, combined with its low barrier to entry, make it the ideal choice."

Many other programming languages also made the list, including SQL (2), R (3), Java (4), JavaScript (5), PHP (9), C# (10), HTML (11) and C++ (14). The report added that in the future distributed computing, machine learning, augmented reality and IoT will be increasingly important.
