AWS Lowers Database Prices

The cloud price war continues with Amazon Web Services lowering its prices yet again. This time it is decreasing fees for Amazon RDS (Relational Database Service) database instances. On-demand customers will see prices for MySQL and Oracle drop by up to 18 percent, while SQL Server prices are decreasing up to 28 percent. And the charge for reserved instances of MySQL and Oracle are falling by up to 27 percent.

In addition, the company has added a free tier for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) users. Customers can get up 750 hours of RHEL usage for free.
