Just a few months ago, it seemed that every company even remotely related to the mobile development industry wanted to open its own app store, but now one company has decided to get out of the app business. Verizon announced that it will begin removing the Verizon Apps store from mobile devices on its network in January, and it expects to complete the process by the end of March. Verizon said that almost all of the apps in its store are available through competing app stores.

Verizon's app store was originally called Vcast Apps when in launched in March 2010. Last year, Verizon attempted to revamp its store with help from Chomp. The store offered apps for Android and BlackBerry smartphones.
