Microsoft has officially released .NET Core 1.0, which the company describes as “a cross-platform, open source, and modular .NET platform for creating modern Web apps, microservices, libraries and console applications.”
Microsoft’s Rich Lander blogged, “This is the biggest transformation of .NET since its inception and will define .NET for the next decade. We’ve rebuilt the foundation of .NET to be targeted at the needs of today’s world: highly distributed cloud applications, micro services and containers.”
At the same time, Microsoft also released two other open source development tools: ASP.NET Core 1.0 and Entity Framework Core 1.0. It also announced that it has finalized the code for Visual Studio 2015 Update 3.
